Welcome to Career Essentials, where I share actionable insights and curated articles that will help accelerate your career and supercharge your job search.

A Simple LinkedIn Posting Strategy

Most job seekers underestimate this ONE simple LinkedIn strategy:

Posting regularly.

Here’s the truth: If your network doesn’t see you, they won’t think of you when opportunities arise.

But what should you actually post? And how often?

I hear these questions all the time, so here are 4 simple ways you can update your LinkedIn status to boost visibility and stay top-of-mind:

1️⃣ Write your own post – share a win, a lesson learned, or a favorite quote (and ask a question to spark engagement).

2️⃣ Share articles from your LinkedIn feed – add your takeaway and tag the author.

3️⃣ Share articles from outside LinkedIn – don’t just drop the link, add your voice and insight. Explain why you agree or disagree, or why you found the article interesting.

4️⃣ Schedule posts – use LinkedIn’s built-in scheduling tool to stay consistent. This is great when you have multiple ideas in one day. (You should only post once per day.)

💡 Why posting regularly matters:

- Greater visibility
- Shows your expertise
- Keeps you top-of-mind
- Builds your community

You know what else works?

Leaving a thoughtful comment. So if you aren’t ready to post, try commenting instead!

👉 Here’s the challenge: Start September 1! Commit to posting or commenting daily.

It doesn’t need to be complicated, just share a thought, an article, or even a quote.

Just. Stay. Visible.

The myth that ATS eliminates applicants or somehow screens applicants out has been around a long time. But it just isn’t true. This post explains what an ATS really is and does. And oh, by the way, there are thousands of ATS systems out there and they all operate a bit differently.

It’s not that using AI is always bad. It’s about making it sound like a real human. The output/writing should sound like YOU! This post explains why and how to write a genuine yet perhaps not “perfect” thank you.

💻 LINKEDIN

2025 LinkedIn Post Stats - Richard van der Blom

There’s good news for those of you with 500-999 connections… what you post on LinkedIn gets more engagement than what I post! I don’t want you to obsess over these findings, but share them so you understand that the LinkedIn algorithm changes and rewards certain content. Always do what feels most in line with your personal brand!

🗨 INTERVIEWING

This is a tip that doesn’t get much attention, but it should. As much as negotiating strategies and wording are important to understand, so is being honest about how well you meet or exceed the requirements of the job. Read this and think about your last negotiation discussion. Were you self-aware?

🕶 PERSONAL BRANDING

When the job market gets tough, we need to differentiate ourselves and that’s why we’re seeing Personal Branding become a topic of conversation. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always been important, but we just don’t talk about it with the same focus or energy. William Arruda is one of the top in this area so his article is a good resource. He breaks the tips into the 3-step personal branding process:

  • KNOW – Discover the brand called YOU

  • SHOW – Tell your story

  • GROW – Expand your visibility and value

William also joined Marie Zimenoff of Career Thought Leaders to talk about Personal Branding and AI. The key point was that AI uses other people’s content to draft it’s answers and this makes it generic. There are some tricks and very innovative uses for AI mentioned in this video like creating personas, buyer profiles, and deep research into companies. If you are curious about ways to use AI that don’t include writing your resume, have a listen!

💰 CAREER

A layoff could happen at any time. Will you have access to the important work docs you need? This article explains documents/materials you should save and how to save them!

Don’t let the title deter you from reading this. It applies even if you have been laid off or left your company. There is a sense of loss that happens when you no longer have work friends you see every day. But there are steps you can take so you don’t feel so alone.

DID YOU MISS THESE

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

There are thousands of job boards out there. And using job boards is just one part of your job search. When you find a board you like (relevant jobs), you tend to stick with it. https://hiring.cafe/ is a bit different (see the reasons below).

Thank you to my friend Chris Blocher for introducing it to me!

HiringCafe

Why they say they’re different:

  1. Jobs you can't find elsewhere

We scrape millions of jobs directly from company websites daily. Many of these companies don't post them on job boards and prefer to post them on their own websites.

  2. No more ghost jobs

We use a fine-tuned AI model to filter out ghost jobs, scams, and offshore consulting shops. On top of that, we don't force you to create an account to apply to jobs.

  3. Up-to-Date Job Listings

Jobs are fetched 3x a day, and we also filter out reposts to ensure jobs are fresh. Other job sites let recruiters repost jobs whenever they want, so you end up seeing the same stale listings again and again.

  4. Advanced search filters

We use ChatGPT's API to extract key information from each job listing, which powers our advanced filters. Learn more about how that works here.

  5. Obsessed with Feedback

We take every piece of feedback seriously and have a dedicated community on Reddit (r/hiringcafe) where you can post feedback and get a quick response from our team
