Welcome to Career Essentials, where I share actionable insights and curated articles that will help accelerate your career and supercharge your job search.

LinkedIn Visibility… Your Comments Matter

No longer can you just stuff your LinkedIn profile with the “right” keywords or skills and expect to see results. (Honestly, I’m not sure that ever really worked that great).

Please read Marie Zimenoff’s article below because she does a great job explaining how LinkedIn changes work. Let me summarizes a key point here:

Showing up in search or in the feed now requires precision.

Precision means the signals across your LinkedIn presence reinforce the same expertise.

- Profile

- Experience

- Content

- Engagement

Engagement means commenting and sharing.

Writing thoughtful and strategical comments helps more than ever. And you know how I can tell? Because LinkedIn is showing us how many impressions or comments get!

WHY?

Because that determines reach and influence within the audience. And because they have the data.

TIPS/IDEAS

Here are other ideas to help you write an engaging comment:

  • Tag the author and explain why you agree

  • Add additional perspectives

  • Expand on a topic in the article

  • Tag other people you know who may have helpful input

  • Add data or links to relevant resources (not your own)

  • Ask a clarifying question

  • Explain your success applying the advice from the article

  • Include an alternative solution (with data or examples)

Is all the information in your profile aligned with what you want to do next? Then you are ready to comment frequently on posts related to your career goals! Do this and see what happens.

GOAL: Write 5 meaningful comments every day this week!

Use this framework to freshen up your job search for Spring! Brainpower, Leverage Strengths, Optimize your Brand, Organize, and Move forward. Lots of practice-doable information you need to incorporate into your job search.

🤝 NETWORKING

In this post you’ll see how to search for former employees on LinkedIn and what to say in an email/message. Former employees are usually much more willing to give you the honest scoop on why they are no longer there and what the culture is like!

💻 LINKEDIN

This is based on the premise that LinkedIn is much more than its job board. People at companies post their job openings as a post, not a job. And if you aren’t looking at posts, you are missing out on opportunities. This post is a part 2 of things to type into the LinkedIn search bubble to look for jobs.

If you’ve noticed a change in what and who you see in your feed on LinkedIn, it is due to more than just changes to the algorithm. Kevin walks you through what really matters to LinkedIn when showing you stuff in your feed. For job seekers who rely only on optimizing their profiles, think again. Kevin writes: “discoverability relies less on exact-match phrasing and more on behavioral reinforcement, profile-to-content consistency, adjacent concept coverage, semantic clarity, and topical depth.”

This is a great supplement to the previous article. Marie dives into the root of the question for job seekers (or those who want more visibility on LinkedIn) “What do you want to be known for?” And this infographic shows the framework.

🗨 INTERVIEWING

Kelli (a recruiter) she references a podcast with master negotiator, Jacob Warwick. While there are exceptions to the “always negotiate” rule (read the comments in the post), everyone can get better at HOW they communicate their value during negotiations.

Sometimes the opportunity for a job interview comes unexpectedly, leaving you without a lot of time to prepare. If that’s your situation, this post lays out the essential steps you need to be confident and prepared for your last-minute interview.

🔮 WORKFORCE

USPS Loses Amazon Business - Jennifer O’Shaunnessey

You may not be in logistics, but there are valuable lessons here for every business. Evolution of business is necessary, but at what cost? The comments are where the gold is. The commenters address issues related to the role of the USPS. Is it a business or a government service? And why has the USPS been operating at a loss since 2006?

💰 CAREER

Later in one’s career, it feels harder to explore new options. But this article will absolutely help. It sets your expectations on what to do and what to expect during the different phases of your networking. The more you learn about new occupations and industries, the clearer you will be in communicating how you align and WHY you fit!

EVENTS

Job searching alone is exhausting. The silence between applications, the second-guessing, the lack of momentum — it wears on you.

That's exactly why this cohort exists.

The Motivation Monday April cohort is a 5-week live group coaching experience for professionals who are ready to stop spinning and start moving. You'll show up each week with a group of peers who get it, stay accountable together, and actually make progress.

Here's what's included:

5 live, one-hour group sessions

A peer accountability team that keeps you honest

Weekly follow-up emails with curated resources

On-demand video guides for key job search topics

A KPI tracker so you always know where you stand

BONUS: A private 1:1 coaching call

More personal than a course. More structured than searching solo. More accessible than ongoing 1:1 coaching.

And here's the part worth highlighting: if you complete all 5 weeks and follow the process, you can reasonably expect at least one screening conversation. That's not a hollow promise — it's a commitment. If you finish and you're still stuck, we don't walk away. We keep working with you.
