Upgrade Your LinkedIn Profile with (More) Skills

What if there were a super-easy way to get more recruiters to view your LinkedIn profile?

There is!

Add more skills throughout your profile!

You can have up to 100 skills!

Here's where to strategically place them:

About Section - Feature your top 5 skills
Experience - Add relevant skills to each job
Projects, Volunteer & Education - Don't miss these spots!

How to find the right skills:

🔍 Study job postings in your field
🔍 Research profiles of industry peers
🔍 Use LinkedIn's Career Explorer tool (https://linkedin.github.io/career-explorer/)

Diversify your skills across these categories:

⚙ Industry knowledge
⚙ Tools & technologies
⚙ Core competencies

Remember: Recruiters actively search for specific skills. Make sure yours are discoverable!

And shout out to Kevin D. Turner (and Donna Svei) for these 2 excellent reminders

1. Be sure to include these skills within the content and context of your profile writing (outside of just assigning them).

2. Get endorsement for your skills, this works like a Social Proof ranking system. The best way to get endorsements is to give endorsements. Throw a Skills Party with 100 of your closet [in] Friends and give each other everything you understand and know they have.

If you believe you should put your “true self” out there, think again. This short carousel explains in very clear terms why you probably need to adapt your resume and messaging to address the people you are talking to/writing to. As Dave says, it’s about providing a “view of you”.

🗨 INTERVIEWING

What would you do if you joined an interview and one or more of the people you were interviewing with didn’t have their camera on? Isn’t the whole point to see one another? Well, there could be reasons for it. See what Heather recommends for employers.

But also, as a candidate interviewing, you have the right to ask questions about the interview format before the call. Also, never assume; ask why their cameras are off. How have you handled this? How would you handle this? Comment on Heather’s post for others to learn from.

AI

Who, why, and where are people using Claude.ai? Anthropic shares the data in their recent report.

  • The US uses Claude far more than any other nation

  • When adjusted by size of country, Israel and Singapore lead in Claude adoption relative to their working-age populations.

  • Since December 2024, computer and mathematical uses of Claude have predominated among our categories, representing around 37-40% of conversations

  • Educational instruction tasks have risen

  • Tasks associated with the physical and social sciences have increased

Visit the report and dive into data that will help you understand AI adoption.

Teegan lists 6 different AI tools (they do different things). Are you using any of these or other AI tools you can share? Neither Teegan nor I are formally endorsing these tools, merely listing the top ones

JOB SEARCH VISUAL

It's never too early to begin preparing your interview stories.

I'm a huge fan of STAR (but others use CAR, SOAR, or PAR). They're all the same.

⭐ Situation, Task, Actions, Results
🌟 Situation, Obstacle, Actions, Results
Challenge, Actions, Results
💫 Problem, Actions, Results

If you are pursuing a leadership role, be sure to have specific stories to back up your leadership abilities.

Use these as a starting point. (See all 15 in the Insta post)
